The first deposit in Japan: 2013-JP001

The CO2OB has been active this summer 2013 in various locations in Japan, organizing free demonstrations and displays of a biochar production using an Elsa stove replica, during a few selected summer festivals.

This biochar was produced during Chiisana Inochino matsuri, in the festival's camping, while many people stopped by noticing that something different was going on.

Mission

The CO2OffsetBank promotes carbon negative practices through vocational training, demonstrations and workshops. The main topic is the efficient production and use of biochar to enrich the soil, retaining water and plant nutrients.

In this way, as an NGO project we want to address the serious issues related to the wide spread detrimental practice of setting the forest on fire, in southeast Asia. A program of collaboration with local hill tribe communities in Thailand is now in the course of development.

The CO2OB is structured as a virtual bank, listing voluntary documented biochar deposits in the soil, wherever on the planet. Whoever does this becomes automatically a donor member of the bank: every gram counts but you'll get 1 CO2OB credit on your account every 273 grams of biochar deposited: this is the equivalent carbon content of 1 kg of CO2.
The database of all the deposits is public and every deposit is listed along the blog as soon as you will give notive of it by email at co2offsetbank(at)gmail(dot)com, with the date, the amount of biochar, the location and the name of the donor.
